By Eva Barnes , Mar 10 2017
User Interface Design

User Interface (UI) Design focuses on creating an easy-to-use, understandable and accessible interface and related elements; which users might require in order to work or communicate efficiently with machines. In short, it focuses on providing users with a transcended user experience (UX) and maximum usability.

UI design is a fusion of visuals, interaction design and information architecture. Its main elements include:

  1. Input Controls – For example: checkboxes, text fields, buttons, date, time pickers
  2. Navigation – For example: search field, breadcrumb, tags, sliders, icons
  3. Informative Components – For example: notifications, progress bar, message boxes
  4. Containers –  For example:  accordion

While making a user interface design you might either add too many elements, or too less. But the balance is crucial. Simplicity doesn’t necessarily mean only using basic elements, nor does it require choosing minimalism over skeuomorphism. It simply means keeping the design simple and easy for the user to understand and use.

However this is just the book version of what user interfaces are, if you really want to know what UIs are then it is best to seek expert advice. Don’t worry, we are not telling you to find Web Designers or UI Designers and grill them about UI. Here, we have compiled a list of 10 quotes that will give you an idea about infusing simplicity in user interface design.
